The seed words generate the private key when you recover your account. It is a standard. You can use the same words to recover your account in Trust Wallet, Metamask, or even a hardware wallet. For all intent and purposes the seed phrase IS the private key. You just need wallet software to know how to turn the seed phrase into the key and sign for you. Metamask provides that capability. That's why we are saying that as long as you have your seed words, you're good to go. Even if your current wallet does not have the ability to sign the claim, Metamask does. You'll just need to recover your account in Metamask (Note: I said recover NOT transfer tokens) and then sign the claim with Metamask. For hardware wallet users, Metamask can connect to the hardware wallet and request a signature.
